The Apple Watch may get cameras and Apple Intelligence

Image
Apple is working on adding cameras to the Apple Watch in order to enable AI features like Visual Intelligence within the next two years, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in today’s Power On Newsletter. The cameras will be “inside the display” for the standard Series Watch, while the Apple Watch Ultra would feature it on the side, next to the digital crown and button, according to Gurman. With them, the Apple Watch would be able to “see the outside world and use AI to deliver relevant information,” which he says is also the plan for camera-equipped AirPods Apple is rumored to be working on. The Visual Intelligence features that these devices would use debuted on the iPhone 16, where it works with the phone’s camera to do things like add details from an event flyer to your calendar, or look up information about a restaurant. It’s underpinned by AI models from other companies, but Gurman writes that Apple hopes to power the feature with its own in-house models by 2027, when he says...

iPhone 17 Lineup: Leaked CAD Renders Reveal Significant Design Innovations Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 series is shaping up to bring exciting design changes, according to recently leaked CAD files. These schematics provide insight into Apple's potential plans, showcasing refinements in camera design, thickness, and form factor that could impact user experience. The iPhone 17 Air: Apple’s Thinnest iPhone Ever? One of the most intriguing reveals from the CAD renders is the iPhone 17 Air , a brand-new model that could redefine thinness in Apple’s smartphone lineup. According to the leaks, this model is expected to be the slimmest iPhone ever , with a thickness of just 5.5mm —even thinner than the iPhone 6 (6.9mm) . Despite its incredibly thin design, the iPhone 17 Air is rumored to feature a large 6.9-inch display , similar in size to the iPhone 17 Pro Max . This suggests Apple is prioritizing a lightweight yet premium experience . However, concerns arise ove...

Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro: Unified Button Design in Testing

Image
As Apple enthusiasts eagerly await the iPhone 17 Pro, reports suggest a significant design change is under consideration. According to sources, Apple is testing a unified button that could replace the traditional volume and action buttons on the upcoming device. Streamlined Button Functionality The proposed design aims to consolidate multiple functionalities into a single button, potentially allowing users to control volume, ringtones, and other customizable features. This shift could simplify the device’s interface, offering a more streamlined user experience. A Step Towards Button Unification Apple has previously explored the concept of unifying buttons in its prototypes. The current testing of a single, multifunctional button indicates that the company may be moving closer to implementing this design in its consumer devices. Future Functionality and Customization While the exact capabilities of the new button remain undisclosed, it’s anticipated that Apple will expan...

iPhone 17 to Feature Electrically Induced Battery Adhesive for Easier Repairs

Image
Apple is set to make a significant leap in device repairability with the iPhone 17 lineup by integrating a new electrically induced adhesive peel technology for battery removal. According to exclusive insights, this innovative approach, previously introduced on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, will now extend across the entire iPhone 17 series, marking a key shift in Apple’s design philosophy. A Step Towards Easier Repairs and Sustainability This move aligns with growing regulatory pressures, particularly from the European Union, which have been pushing smartphone manufacturers to simplify battery replacement. By making battery removal more accessible, Apple aims to enhance the lifespan of its devices while reducing electronic waste, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability. The core of this technology lies in its adhesive system, which securely holds the battery in place but releases effortlessly when a low-voltage electric current is applied. Unlike traditional adhesive stri...

Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro: A Fresh Green Hue on the Horizon?

Image
As anticipation builds for Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 17 Pro, rumors suggest the tech giant may introduce a new green color option, potentially dubbed “Titanium Green.” A Nod to the Past with a Modern Twist The rumored Titanium Green is speculated to resemble the green shade from the iPhone 13 Pro series, offering a familiar yet refreshed aesthetic. Testing Multiple Hues Reports indicate that Apple is experimenting with three new color variants for the iPhone 17 Pro: • Titanium Blue: Described as “brighter than Yuangfeng Blue,” this shade may evoke memories of the iPhone 13 Pro’s Sierra Blue. • Titanium Purple: A color reminiscent of the iPhone 14 Pro’s purple variant. • Titanium Green: The potential new green option, possibly mirroring the iPhone 13 Pro’s green hue. Among these, Titanium Green is reportedly the frontrunner for official release. Aligning with Apple’s Design Philosophy Introducing a new green variant aligns with Apple’s tradition of periodically ...

Beijing boosts AI startup Manus, as China looks for the next DeepSeek

Image
BEIJING, March 21 (Reuters) - Chinese artificial intelligence startup Manus on Thursday registered its China-facing AI assistant and was featured for the first time in a state media broadcast, highlighting Beijing's strategy of boosting domestic AI firms that have received overseas recognition.  Since China's DeepSeek shocked Silicon Valley by releasing AI models comparable to its U.S. competitors but developed at a fraction of the cost, Chinese investors have been on the lookout for the next domestic startup with the potential to upend the global tech order. Some have pointed to Manus. The company went viral on X a few weeks ago by releasing what it claimed to be the world's first general AI agent, capable of making decisions and executing tasks autonomously, with much less prompting required compared to AI chatbots like ChatGPT and DeepSeek. Beijing is now showing signs that it will support Manus' rollout within China, echoing its response to DeepSeek's succes...

Review: Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) ProReview: Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro

Image
Value has been at the top of my mind the past few weeks. After reviewing the $599 iPhone 16e, I jumped into Nothing's new budget series, the Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro. Starting at $379 and $459, they're a perfect demonstration of value—something the new iPhone struggles with. Not only are these two Android devices exemplary in performance, battery life, cameras, and display, but they're also visually distinct with a stylish and slick interface that's hard not to love. There are a few caveats. Nothing is still selling its new Phone (3a) series via a beta program in the US. Once you sign up, you'll be able to purchase the phones. It's how the company has been selling prior models, but it feels unnecessary. This may partly be because it's not confident in its connectivity story. While the phones should work on T-Mobile just fine—I've been testing them on Google Fi with no problems—they'll only work on 4G with AT&T and Verizon. To enable 5G, yo...
