Gemini replacing Bixby was Samsung's biggest S25 announcement, and barely anyone noticed

Image
Samsung may have hosted a physical event to introduce the Galaxy S25 series, but the headlining features of the new phones are almost entirely software. This made for a not particularly exciting series of announcements, even if they were a good look at current strategies for integrating AI into every part of smartphone operating systems. In the case of the S25 and One UI 7 , it's an AI-generated Now Brief, AI-powered editing tools, and expanded Gemini features. Gemini's new skills are critical because one of Samsung's subtler updates involved a reassignment. Instead of dedicating the S25's side button to Bixby , Samsung's main voice assistant since 2017, pressing it now calls up Google Gemini. There are multiple ways to read this change. Samsung and Google are serious about making generative AI a key part of using a smartphone. Still, it also seems that having a physical way to interact with AI assistants could be a large part of what makes one more successf...

Nothing Phone (3a) Series Release Date Revealed In Latest Challenge To iPhone

Image
Tech company Nothing has big plans for 2025, as a leaked email already revealed. But though we knew a new phone announcement was imminent, today’s model is a surprise. Instead of the expected Phone (3), it’s the Phone (3a) series. Here’s why this makes sense. Previously, Nothing released the Phone (2) and then the Phone (2a), so you might have thought they’d got out of order here, a bit like those street addresses where 17a comes before 17 for no apparent reason. But I think there’s a method here. The (a) suffix indicates a more affordable model with slightly reduced specs. As Nothing’s co-founder Akis Evangelidis said in the Community Quartely Update video that announced the new phone: “For the (a) Series we have a different set of users. When people buy a smartphone some are looking for the greatest specs, they want the latest innovations and processors. Yet there are some other users that are equally excited about tech, but are happy with just a great user experience—that’s who th...

Apple iPhone SE 4 Likely To Debut By April 2025 With Features Similar To iPhone 14; Check Expected Specs And Price

Image
Apple iPhone SE 4 Launch: The Apple iPhone SE 4 is rumoured to be announced in the coming months as the successor to the iPhone SE (2022), which remains the most affordable smartphone in Apple's current lineup. Even before the official announcement, several leaks have already surfaced, revealing key details about what could be Apple's most budget-friendly iPhone of 2025. The latest leak by Majin Bu on X has provided a glimpse of the iPhone SE 4's design. According to Ross Young, the device will feature a notch similar to the one on the iPhone 14, rather than the Dynamic Island, which has become a signature design element in Apple's more premium models. It's worth noting that the popular Dynamic Island, which debuted with the iPhone 15, offers a more interactive and sleek user experience. However, the decision to use the older notch design for the iPhone SE 4 is primarily driven by cost considerations. iPhone SE 4 Price In USD And Launch (Expected) According to th...

iPhone 17 Pro Prototype: A Closer Look at the Redesigned Camera Module

Image
New leaks suggest that Apple is making key changes to the iPhone 17 Pro’s camera system, refining both its hardware and design. While the triangular lens arrangement remains, modifications to the flash placement and Lidar sensor positioning indicate a clear focus on improving photography and augmented reality (AR) capabilities. Bigger Camera Module, Better Performance One of the most noticeable changes is the larger camera module, which could allow Apple to integrate bigger sensors. This upgrade would improve: • Image clarity and detail • Low-light performance with better light capture Additionally, an adjusted flash position hints at improvements in night photography and portrait shots, potentially offering more natural lighting. Lidar Sensor Adjustments: Faster Focus & Enhanced AR The repositioning of the Lidar sensor suggests Apple is working to: • Speed up autofocus, especially in dim lighting • Enhance AR applications, making digital objects blend more seamlessly int...

Is This Our First Look at the iPhone 17? Examining the Latest Leaked Image

Image
A new image has surfaced, purportedly showing the back of Apple's upcoming iPhone 17. While the design appears to align with what we know so far, some elements have raised suspicions regarding its authenticity. As an Apple expert here at *Noso News*, I’ve examined the details closely to determine whether this is a genuine early look at the next-generation iPhone or a cleverly crafted fake. The Suspicious Details One of the first things that caught my attention was the *Apple logo*, which appears noticeably smaller than usual. This deviation from Apple's standard design raises the possibility that the image has been altered or is an early-stage prototype that doesn't reflect the final product. Another red flag is the timing of the leak. Apple traditionally does not enter mass production for its flagship devices this early in the year. While it’s possible that this image comes from a batch of prototype units being tested, the likelihood of Apple shifting its production s...

New iPhone SE Leak Reveals Apple’s Design Decision

Image
How do you make an iPhone SE look and feel like an iPhone? The latest leaked images of the next iPhone illustrate how Tim Cook and his team will ensure the new iOS-powered smartphone fits into its portfolio The iPhone SE Will Not Get The Dynamic Island There has been a question about how advanced the iPhone SE screen would be. The cardinal-numbered iPhone line has moved from the iconic notch debuting on the iPhone X to a dynamic island. This saw a pill-shaped cutout for the selfie camera, FaceID camera, and other sensors. It was masked by a black widget area generated on the display, which could change size dynamically to offer contextual information and controls. The latest leaked images of 2025’s iPhone SE show that the SE will introduce the notch to Apple’s mid-range smartphone for the first time but will not go as far as the dynamic island. This decision will impact several factors. How The iPhone SE's Notch Will Benefit Apple The first is cost. The notched screen is base...

DeepSeek vs. ChatGPT: A Comparison of AI Chatbots

Image
As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, new AI chatbots are emerging to compete with established models like OpenAI's ChatGPT. One of the latest contenders in this space is DeepSeek, an AI model designed to enhance user interactions with intelligent and efficient responses. But how does DeepSeek compare to ChatGPT? Let's take a closer look at their features, strengths, and differences. 1. Model Capabilities ChatGPT: Developed by OpenAI, ChatGPT is a versatile AI model trained on vast amounts of data to provide accurate and coherent responses. It is designed for conversational AI, content creation, coding assistance, and more. DeepSeek: DeepSeek is also built to understand and generate human-like responses but is optimized for search-related tasks and information retrieval. It focuses on providing direct answers rather than extended conversations. 2. Accuracy and Knowledge Base ChatGPT: Powered by OpenAI’s GPT architecture, ChatGPT leverages extensive datasets, all...

Researchers recreated DeepSeek’s core technology for just $30

Image
A group of researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, say they’ve recreated the core technology found in China’s revolutionary DeepSeek AI for just $30. This extremely cheap DeepSeek recreation is yet another indicator that while models from larger companies have been impressive, there may be much more affordable ways to build them. Led by Ph.D. candidate Jiayi Pan, the team replicated DeepSeek R1-Zero’s reinforcement learning capabilities using a small language model with just 3 billion parameters. Despite its relatively modest size, the AI demonstrated self-verification and search abilities, key features that allow it to refine its own responses iteratively. To test their DeepSeek recreation, the Berkeley team used the Countdown game, a numerical puzzle based on the British game show where players must use arithmetic to reach a target number. Initially, the model produced random guesses, but through reinforcement learning, it developed techniques for self-correction an...

Microsoft brings a DeepSeek model to its cloud

Image
Microsoft’s close partner and collaborator, OpenAI, might be suggesting that DeepSeek stole its IP and violated its terms of service. Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 Vs RTX 4090: And The Winner Is?

Image
Today Nvidia's embargo on the performance of its GeForce RTX 5080 is lifting and we can finally see how its gaming performance compares to the RTX 4090, 4080 Super and AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX. This RTX 5080 review follows the RTX 5090 review last week and while that costs an eye-watering $2,000, its massive performance mean it's still likely to appeal to those with very large budgets. At $1,000, the RTX 5080 is half the price, although a lot will depend on availability, with prices not expected to settle till well in to February. However, with AMD's Radeon RX 9070 XT not expected to offer competition for Nvidia's top-end cards, pricing may remain higher than expected, even for the RTX 5080. Nvidia RTX RTX 5080 Review: Specifications Below are the specifications for the new RTX 50-series graphics cards. Probably the key thing to note is just how much more powerful the RTX 5090 is than the RTX 5080. It has twice as much of nearly everything - double the memory, more than...

Trump says Microsoft is in talks to acquire TikTok

Image
Jan 27 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters on Monday that Microsoft (MSFT.O), opens new tab is in talks to acquire TikTok and that he would like to see a bidding war over the app. Microsoft declined to comment. TikTok and ByteDance did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for a comment outside regular business hours. TikTok, which has about 170 million American users, was briefly taken offline just before a law requiring its Chinese owner ByteDance to either sell it on national security grounds or face a ban took effect on Jan. 19. Trump, after taking office on Jan. 20, signed an executive order seeking to delay by 75 days the enforcement of the law. Trump said last week that he was in talks with multiple people over buying TikTok and would likely have a decision on the popular app's future in 30 days. The U.S. president has previously said that he was open to billionaire Elon Musk buying the social media app if the Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab CEO...

Samsung’s New Android XR Headset Shows Everyone Underestimated the Apple Vision Pro

Image
Everybody copies Apple, even the tech giant’s missteps. Samsung is working on its own VR/AR helmet dubbed “Project Moohan,” along with a pair of AR glasses. The first video to finally show off its capabilities in full seems to cement Samsung and Google’s biggest inspiration for its new headset, which was the too-often maligned and too-expensive Vision Pro. While some select journalists and industry insiders had some hands-on time with the headset last year, this is the first time the rest of us have seen it in person. Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee shared the first footage of the inside and outside of the helmet. It gives us a first look at the hyped AndroidXR ecosystem and its controls. If you have seen or used a Vision Pro or even a Meta Quest 3 or Quest 3S, you’ll get a thick sense of deja vu. ven from pictures, the device strongly resembles Apple’s $3,500 headset. The device even has an external battery pack that can slip into your pocket. Samsung’s device has made some improvem...

Google Pixel 9a Reportedly Costs $499 to Start

Image
Following several leaks that have told most of the early story of the upcoming Google Pixel 9a, a rumored price is now here for the US and it will look familiar. For those who missed all of the previous coverage, we believe the Pixel 9a looks like this, that it is reportedly launching in March, which would be much earlier than we typically see A-series phones, and has specs that would make it a solid option for those needing the Pixel experience with a limited budget. As for the price, a new report suggests it’ll cost $499 here. That price would get you 128GB storage, while another $100 ($599) would get you $256GB. If that’s true, we’re looking at a price increase on the 256GB model – the Pixel 8a 256GB was priced at $559. The story here is that Google will update the design language of the phone to closely match the Pixel 9 series, while tossing in their new Tensor G4 and keeping the price relatively the same. I’m going to bet that it’ll be a phone that anyone on a budget should...

Google is testing Android 16 and Samsung not even released Android 15 (One UI 7)

Image
Google is testing Android 16 for the entire Android ecosystem, meanwhile, Samsung has not even released Android 15 for its existing devices. The Korean phone maker has based One UI 7 on Android 15 with many new features as well as UI upgrades. This new One UI version is quite late compared to the previous ones, which could be related to Samsung’s transition to generative AI technologies. To set things straight, let’s take a look at the Android releases. In February 2023, Google released the first developer preview for Android 14. After five months of testing, the company announced the final build in October. That year, Samsung opened the One UI 6 beta program for the S23 series in August, followed by a stable release for top models in late 2023. Moving on, the first Android 15 developer preview was announced in February, and the final build debuted in October 2024. Apart from previous years, 2024 was quite frustrating for Galaxy smartphone owners in the case of One UI 7. The first...

X seals payments deal with Visa in push toward Musk's 'everything app' goal, source says

Image
Jan 28 (Reuters) - Payments giant Visa (V.N), opens new tab and Elon Musk's X are partnering to offer direct payment solutions to customers of the social media app, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday. The deal comes as the billionaire continues his efforts to transform the X platform into an "everything app", aiming to offer a wide range of services, including messaging, social networking and payments. Visa will be the first partner of the X Money account, under which customers can instantly fund their X wallet and connect their debit cards for peer-to-peer payments, the source said. Customers will also get the option to instantly transfer funds to their bank account from X Money. The digital payments ecosystem in the U.S. has grown rapidly since 2020, driven by the pandemic, which pushed people online and increased the demand for convenient peer-to-peer payments, typically via smartphones. Traditional card networks Visa and rival Mastercard (MA.N...

Google open-sources the Pebble smartwatch’s software, and its creator is making a new model

Image
Pebble is back, baby. On Monday, Google (which owns Pebble’s IP via its Fitbit purchase) open-sourced the OG modern smartwatch’s software. Although that paves the road for anyone to make new Pebble-esque wearables (or custom firmware for the old models), one high-profile figure has already raised his hand: Pebble creator Eric Migicovsky. Google says the open-source PebbleOS includes most of the software’s source code. The only exceptions are proprietary code for chipset and Bluetooth software. Google’s Matthieu Jeanson, Katharine Berry and Liam McLoughlin wrote that developers face “a non-trivial amount of work” in finding replacements for the stripped-out pieces of code. Migicovsky says he spurred the project by asking friends at Google if they would open-source the software. The Pebble founder, who went on to run Beeper (the iMessage for Android app that sparked a short-lived war with Apple), wrote on his blog that he wants his planned smartwatch to be a modern take on the origina...

Galaxy S25 Edge: Just Who Is This Slim Phone For?

Image
After unveiling its Galaxy S25 trio of flagship phones, Samsung ended its Unpacked event with a surprise tease: a fourth handset, the Galaxy S25 Edge. With no details save that this would be thinner than the other three, we're still left to wonder: who is this slim phone for? The three main S25 devices all fit specific demographic profiles: the standard $800 S25 is the entry device, the $1,000 S25 Plus is for those who want a bigger phone with higher specs, and the $1,300 S25 Ultra is for those who want the absolute best phone out there. Once we know the S25 Edge's price, we'll have a better idea where it falls amid its siblings. "While we still don't know it's exact pricing, we know it will be a premium device with all the bells and whistles, wrapped up in a thinner body... and if that's true, my intuition is that it's bound to be more expensive than the existing S25 lineup," said Nabila Popal, a research director with the International Data Co...
